Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Pair jailed for felony drug possession
Two men were arrested Thursday night in the area of North Lompa Lane and East College Parkway for felony possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop, Carson City Sheriff's deputies said.
Joey Eckert, 22, of Carson City and Mikel Hafeman, 23, of South Lake Tahoe, CA, were taken into custody after a Sheriff's deputy pulled their vehicle over for making an improper lane change, the arrest reports said.
Upon making contact with law enforcement, driver Hafeman admitted to having an outstanding arrest warrant against him, the report said.
Hafeman then stepped out of the vehicle upon the deputy's request and was placed in handcuffs. Another deputy arrived to assist as passenger Eckert was questioned.
The contacting deputy asked Eckert to step out of the vehicle, the report said, and as he opened the passenger door a plastic baggie containing syringes and a metal spoon with black residue on it was in plain view from the side storage area. The baggie was also found to contain a q-tip with additional black residue.
Eckert was subsequently detained as dispatch performed a records check on him. An active bench warrant issued through the Carson City Western Regional Drug Court against Eckert was confirmed with a no-bail hold for failure to appear on a felony attempted burglary charge, the report said.
Records also showed Eckert had a priority 5 parole and probation hold placed on him, while Hafeman had an outstanding bench warrant isued out of the Carson City Justice Court for failure to appear.
A K-9 unit arrived at the scene to perform an exterior vehicle sniff following discovery of the baggie with paraphernalia in plain sight of the deputy. The K-9 officer indicated a positive sniff and Hafeman consented to a vehicle search, which found a glass methamphetamine pipe containing residue.
The black residue on the q-tip and spoon was tested and came back presumptive positive for heroin. Residue on the glass pipe was tested and came back presumptive positive for meth.
Eckert and Hafeman were subsequently transported to the Carson City Jail where they were booked. No bail for Eckert and $3,000 bail for Hafeman.
