American Century Championship introduces app for annual celebrity golf tournament
The 28th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course is launching a new app that will enable users to follow players live throughout this week, July 11-16.
The complimentary mobile app is called American Century Championship, and can be downloaded from both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Users will have access to instant information and breaking news, and they will be able to track the progress of their favorite celebrities, including Justin Timberlake, Charles Barkley and Steph Curry. In addition, fans can text ACC2017 to 74574 to receive opt-in push notifications for real-time information, breaking news, and behind-the-scenes views of the event.
The ACC app continuously updates tournament leaderboard and scores, and it features an interactive course map that allows users to track the location of their favorite celebrities at any given time. Attendees will be able to view tee times, pairing details, course history and FAQs along with a complete schedule for the tournament and the additional daytime and evening events. The app was developed by Kansas City-based digital production firm Propaganda 3, which specializes in the design and development of websites, apps, games and software.
The 2017 American Century Championship is scored using the Modified Stableford format whereby points are awarded as follows: 10 for a double eagle, 8 for a hole in one, 3 for a birdie, 1 for par, 0 for bogey, and minus 2 for double bogey. The tournament will be held at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, a George Fazio design which has been rated by Golf Digest Magazine as one of “America’s Top Golf Courses.”
Aaron Rodgers, John Elway, Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, John Smoltz, Greg Maddux, Carson Palmer, Jared Goff, Blake Bortles and Jason Kidd are some of the other big names playing in the tournament. Mark Mulder, the former Oakland A’s All-Star pitcher, is trying to win the tournament for the third year in a row.
The tournament will be televised live by NBCSN Friday from 4-7 p.m. ET (1-4 p.m. PT) and by NBC Sports Saturday and Sunday from 3-6 p.m. ET (noon – 3 p.m. PT) both days from picturesque Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, its home since the first event in 1990.
Now in its 28th year, the tournament offers a purse of $600,000, while raising money for local and national charities. A total of 90 stars from sports and entertainment convene at the Northern Nevada resort destination, where over $4 million has been raised for local and national charities. The official beneficiary of this year’s event is the Stowers Institute for Medical Research.
American Century Investments, the title sponsor of the championship since 1998, continues its role in the nation’s premier celebrity golf tournament through 2022, along with partnerships with NBC Sports, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and the South Tahoe community.
