Letter: Move your helicopter night training somewhere else
Dear Editor:
I just read an article about the helicopter training going on at night at the Carson City airport. It is cool we can help these pilots with their training, and the extra income to the area is nice, but I don't know that the lack of sleep for many residents of north Carson is worth it. I don't suppose it is feasible to, in addition to their night-vision training, to incorporate some stealth training?
I have lived near the airport for about six years now and don't usually mind the noise from the aircraft flying over. I actually enjoy hearing/ watching some of the old warbirds and such flying around on Saturday mornings. BUT I have to get up rather early for work in the mornings and those loud helicopters circling around for hours at night make it very difficult to get to sleep, making my day at work rather miserable. I just read this will be going on at least until the end of the year? Not acceptable!
There is a lot of empty land north of the airport, is there any reason they can't train there? If you can train them to spot coyotes in the desert at night, then finding the drug smugglers at home should be a piece of cake.
The only others options I see for me and other north Carson residents are as follows:
- Put up with the noise and lack of sleep so a few others can make some money and some foreigners can learn how to patrol their country.
- Move to another location.
- Spend a bunch of money to soundproof our homes and pay for a climate controlled environment rather than enjoying the cool night air in the summer.
- Get a different job working nights.
Number 1 is to me, as well as I am sure many others, not acceptable. Numbers 2 and 3 are not at this time economically feasible. As for number 4, anyone who has lived here for any amount of time knows, there are no jobs. Anyone who has one now is lucky to have it. It appears I am looking forward to a long, miserable summer.
Do you have any suggestions on how or why I should have to change my life to accommodate a few foreign pilots and El Aero Services? Perhaps we could give the citizens some SAM's and teach these pilots some defensive skills at the same time? (kidding)
