Carson City Sheriff's Office warns of telephone scam asking for warrant payment
A familiar phone scam began circulating in Carson City over the weekend, this time naming a Carson City Sheriff's Office captain as the phone caller.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is warning the public regarding a person who is identifying themselves as CCSO Sheriff Capt. Clay Wall. The scammer is telling victims to provide money to pay the sheriff’s office for a warrant or go to jail.
The victims are told the money is for outstanding warrant fees. The victims are instructed to have a form of payment ready and to contact a phone number at a later time.
"The Carson City Sheriff's Office does not solicit money over the phone for payment of warrant. This and others like them are scams and people need to be aware of them," said Capt. Wall.
If you receive one of these calls or have suffered a loss as a result of this scam, call CCSO's non-emergency line at 775-887-2677.
