Thunderstorms and flash flooding expected throughout Western Nevada and Sierra
Wednesday brings another chance of slow moving thunderstorms expected to develop again over the Sierra and western Nevada, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Watch for the region until midnight.
The combination of slow moving storms and high levels of moisture will likely result in periods of very heavy rain through this evening. Flash flooding, along with debris and mud flows are possible, according to the weather service.
Areas most susceptible to flooding will be areas that have received heavy rain in the past few days along with steep terrain and burn scars from recent wildfires. The weather service advises that most flood fatalities occur in vehicles. Do not drive into areas where water covers the road. Do not walk in moving water as only a few inches can sweep you of your feet.
