Carson City area holiday weekend weather: Sunny and hot with chance of thunderstorms
The Independence Day holiday weekend arrives around Carson City, western Nevada and Lake Tahoe with continued hot weather in the valleys and daily chances for thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Daytime highs around Carson City, Carson Valley, Washoe, and Lyon counties will be in the mid 90s through at least Sunday. For the Lake Tahoe Basin, daytime highs will be in the low 80s. At this time there are no watches, warnings or advisories issued.
While it doesn't look like the region will be reaching record-breaking, 100-plus degree heat, hot weather conditions will persist. Take measures to stay cool, remain hydrated, and keep informed. Getting too hot can make you sick. You can become ill from the heat if your body can’t compensate for it and properly cool you off.
According to the CDC, everyone should take these steps to prevent heat-related illnesses, injuries, and death during hot weather:
— Never leave children or pets in cars.
— Stay in an air-conditioned indoor location as much as you can.
— Drink plenty of fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty.
— Schedule outdoor activities carefully.
— Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing and sunscreen.
— Pace yourself.
— Take cool showers or baths to cool down.
— Check on a friend or neighbor and have someone do the same for you.
— Check the local news for health and safety updates.
