NDOT halts projects beginning Thursday for July 4 holiday travel
Beginning Thursday, the Nevada Department of Transportation will temporarily suspend major work on state road projects over the Fourth of July holiday weekend for easier travel.
There will not be construction-related lane closures beginning the morning of Thursday, July 3 and evening of Sunday, July 6 for NDOT projects including Kingsbury Grade, Mt. Rose Highway, U.S. 50 (Moundhouse-area) and other road work.
“Our top priority is the safety and mobility of our state roads,” NDOT District Engineer Thor Dyson said. “We have very important projects underway to improve some vital area roadways. This temporary construction shutdown is another way we strive to make travel through these projects as easy as possible. Drivers will still see construction equipment staged near the road in project areas, and we encourage motorists to continue to drive safely through those areas.”
NDOT also implements similar temporary construction suspensions during major high-traffic events such as Hot August Nights and Street Vibrations.
In Carson City, the following projects will continue during the week days: On Tuesday, July 1, the northbound outside lane of Carson Street will be closed from Washington Street to Hot Springs Road.
On Wednesday, July 2, the southbound outside lane of Carson Street will be closed from Musser Street to Second Street.
Vista Grande Boulevard will continue to be closed from Topsy Lane to Old Clear Creek Road with a signed detour. There will also be intermittent delays Wednesday on Old Clear Creek Road near the intersection with Vista Grande Boulevard.
Also Wednesday there will be road work on the section of Timberline Drive between both intersections with Prospect Drive. This section will be open to local traffic only, and through traffic will be detoured onto Prospect Drive.
There will be lane closures on Potomac Street between Lexington and Saratoga on the weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be flagger-controlled traffic.
There will be street shoulder work on weekdays at the following locations. Minimal — Combs Canyon Road and Meadow Wood Road in the Lakeview area. Also, the north side of Morgan Mill Road between Empire Ranch Road and Deer Run Road.
