Theatrical Fundraiser Set for Carson City’s Meals on Wheels
The Proscenium Players Inc.’s (PPI) upcoming production of Gaslight will raise money for Carson City’s Meals on Wheels program. The encore performances take place July 7th, 8th and 9th in the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center.
Gaslight is a gripping story of betrayal, despair, deception and manipulation. “You have a manipulating, psychopathic partner taking advantage of the love, care and trust from his wife,” says director Steven Segal. “It’s a heartbreaking drama with an equally intense ending. It was so well received during its first run earlier this year that we decided to bring it back this fundraiser.”
The Carson City Senior Follies, now called the New Carson Follies, has hosted an annual fundraiser for Meals on Wheels for more than two decades. However this year, several factors, including renovations at the Senior Center where the Follies rehearse, meant the show would not go on. “Enter PPI,” said Follies Director Toni VanCleave. “We asked them if they would like to take our spot at the theater this year. It’s a win/win situation for all of us. the senior center still gets to have a major fundraiser that benefits Meals on Wheels. Plus, PPI gets to perform an encore performance in the biggest theater in the area and benefits from a split in the proceeds as well!
Meals on Wheels delivers approximately 110,000 meals annually to people over 60 years old who are homebound. The food averages about $2.00 per meal, which adds up to more than $200,000 a year.
Segal says they are happy to step in. “Meals on wheels is an incredible charity that provides direct help to so many in the community,” he said. “Their model and compassion is well respected and extremely worthwhile. To us, this was such a great opportunity to bring a production that we are so proud of back to life, while helping so many through such a great organization.”
Performances are Friday and Saturday, July 7th and 8th at 7:00 P.M. and Sunday, July 9th at 2:00 P.M. Tickets are available at https://www.carsontheater.com
