Western Nevada heats up again through July 4 holiday weekend
A big warm up will once again take place this week with high temperatures in the 95-110 degree range in western Nevada and in the 85-95 degree range in the Sierra Tuesday through Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
A Heat Advisory has been issued beginning Wednesday morning through Thursday night for the Western Nevada Basin areas and Pyramid Lake. Among those cities in the advisory area are Dayton, Silver Springs, Fernley, Lovelock, Nixon and Imlay.
The warmest day is expected to be Thursday, and the forecast high temperatures can be found in the image above. Remember to stay hydrated, use skin protection, and avoid strenuous activity during the heat of the day, the weather service advises. Keep your pets hydrated and indoors. Never leave kids or pets in the car.
Carson City and Carson Valley are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s for the remainder of the week with a chance for thundershowers.
In addition to the heat, moisture will continue to stream north and bring chances for thunderstorms each afternoon through the July 4 weekend. Remember, if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be stuck by lightning. Pay attention to the skies and be sure to have a safety route planned during outdoor activities, the weather service advises.
