Gusty winds for Carson City region prompt Red Flag fire weather warning
Gusty winds and low humidity expected to arrive Monday has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for Carson City, western Nevada and extreme northeastern California.
Gusty winds and very dry conditions will return on Monday and are forecast to persist through Tuesday afternoon. Any spark may cause a wildfire in the dry grass and brush. The weather service advises people to be mindful of any activity that may cause a spark, especially if you are target shooting, off-roading or starting a campfire.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first
responders can contain them.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday. Winds will be out of the southwest to west 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Humidity is expected to be between 7 to 14 percent.
Day time highs for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will be in the upper 90s Sunday, around 90 on Monday with breezy conditions, and the mid 80s for Tuesday and Wednesday.
