Carson City arrests: Man jailed for allegedly threatening victim with knife

A 44-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor resisting a public officer, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Kevin Lea Nunez was taken into custody at 7:39 p.m. in the 300 block of C Street. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area by a witness for a domestic dispute. The man allegedly had a knife in his hand and was waving it at a female victim, his mother.

A deputy detained the man due to him being intoxicated. The man’s hand was bleeding and he would not talk about the incident, calling one deputy a “piece of sh*t and a public servant,” the arrest report states.

The man threw and broke things inside the home. The victim went outside where the man waved a blue knife at her telling her to get her ass back in the house so he could take care of her, the arrest report states.

A witness informed deputies they heard the man yelling at the woman, then looked outside the window and saw the man waving the knife at the woman, prompting them to call police, the arrest report states.

While the suspect was being escorted to the patrol vehicle he told deputies he was not going to jail and wanted to fight, attempting to break the grips of the officers by aggressively swinging his body from side to side.

The man was escorted to the hood of the patrol vehicle, where he attempted to break away, kicking his legs and rolling his upper body. Deputies grabbed the man and placed him in the patrol vehicle. He was taken to the hospital for medical treatment to his hands, and taken to jail. Bail: $21,137.

In other arrests:
— Two men and a woman were arrested Thursday, 4:55 p.m. in the 800 block of South Roop Street for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child endangerment and other charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were advised of three intoxicated subjects at Ross Gold Park who were acting inappropriately in the area, with a toddler at one point left in a vehicle as two adult males wrestled in the grass, while a female was slapping and hitting one of the men.

It was learned the three then got into a vehicle and took off. A deputy caught up with the vehicle on South Roop Street and made a traffic stop. The officer observed the child walking around in the back seat of the moving vehicle.

The 29-year-old mother, who was grossly intoxicated, was asked why the child was not restrained. The woman said the girl was three, which turned out not to be true. The girl was younger. The deputy advised the woman she was required by law to have her daughter restrained in a car seat. The woman provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .285, the arrest report states.

Deputies made contact with the two men in the vehicle, a 39-year-old passenger and the driver, age 46. The male passenger had a preliminary breath test of .306, the arrest report states. The driver told officers he was not drunk and said he had one 12-ounce beer. He agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .160. The man insisted he passed all tests and blew “zeros,” the arrest report states.

At jail the driver’s behavior escalated and he refused to answer booking questions. He announced he refused any further testing or a blood draw. A judge granted and approved a search warrant for the driver’s blood.

The driver faces a misdemeanor charge of DUI first offense, gross misdemeanor child endangerment, not having his driver’s license in possession and driving with an unrestrained child. Bail: $3,806.

The passenger was arrested for a misdemeanor petit theft warrant issued in October 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. He also faces a gross misdemeanor child endangerment charge.

The female faces a gross misdemeanor child endangerment charge and misdemeanor domestic battery after a witness said she saw the woman hitting one of the men. Bail: $5,637. The child was released by CPS to her grandmother.

Also located was a “tooter” straw, commonly used for inhaling substances and a piece of foil in the door pocket. Bail: $3,637.

— A 27-year-old transient, Cameron Chase Wellbrook, was arrested Thursday, 4:09 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Carson Street for two felony warrants out of El Dorado Superior Court, and misdemeanor petit larceny. The man attempted to steal approximately $105 worth of merchandise from Sportsman’s Warehouse. During the investigation, deputies learned of the two confirmed felony warrants from California. One warrant was for probation violation, which has a no-bail hold, and the second, a warrant alleging burglary. Bail: $7,852.

— A 43-year-old Longview, Wash., man was arrested early Friday morning in the area of North Carson and Hospitality Way for misdemeanor suspicion of obstructing an officer and failure to maintain a lane of travel, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The driver was stopped after a patrol deputy observed the man crossing lanes of traffic, solid white lines and moving across lanes.

The driver was informed why he was stopped. Officers were considering letting the man go with a warning, however, the man began to yell at and talk over deputies, saying he didn’t do anything wrong, calling it a “bull sh*t stop” and rolled up the window and turned on his vehicle, where he began yelling inside the vehicle, the arrest report states.

The man then jumped out of the vehicle and demanded a supervisor, saying he was not violating any laws. A deputy told him he needed to wait in the vehicle. He was told several times to return to his vehicle.

He was advised he was receiving a citation. The man refused to sign it. He was informed that if he did not sign the citation he would go to jail. He refused to sign it. A deputy reached inside the vehicle and opened the door. The man told the deputy “fine lady, I’ll get out.” Bail: $544.
