Windy, dry conditions Sunday prompt Red Flag Warning for Carson City, Lake Tahoe regions
Gusty winds and very dry conditions Sunday has prompted a Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service for much of Western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin.
A very dry airmass will persist this weekend with poor nighttime recoveries ahead of a trough that will brush the area Sunday. The trough will bring increasing afternoon and evening winds and critical fire weather conditions Sunday, according to the weather service.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday for the Lake Tahoe Basin and portions of Western Nevada, including Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas.
Winds Sunday will be from the southwest to west, 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Humidity will be from 5 to 15 percent.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur. Avoid doing outdoor activities that can create a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting or campfires.
