Carson City DA motions to dismiss murder charge in 2014 hospital mercy killing
William Dresser shot and killed his wife, Frances, in a third-floor hospital room at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. He had been charged with murder with a deadly weapon.
In the summary filed by Woodbury, it states that prosecuting Dresser would "serve no worthy purpose."
Dresser, of Minden, had intended to shoot himself after killing his wife but the gun had jammed. Dresser told investigating officers that he didn't complete what he set out to do, which was to kill his wife of 63 years and then turn the gun on himself. It was the victim's wishes to die, which are explained in the motion and by members of the Dresser family.
