Voluntary evacuations for the Carson Colony and Voltaire Canyon areas were lifted Wednesday afternoon as firefighters continue to make significant progress on the wildfire, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
The Voltaire Fire, which erupted at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday has burned around 50 acres. Containment changes are forthcoming as firefighters continue to operate in a unified command, said Slamon, adding the fire is a good example of the cooperative relationships Carson City has with local, state and federal fire agencies.
Crews are fighting the fire from the ground and with helicopter water drops.
The fire is believed to have been caused by campers and was fueled by high winds and heavy fuels in areas that had not burned during the Voltaire Canyon fire in August 2017.
Sierra Front Incident Management Team is ordered and will take over the fire this evening. Go here for updates on the fire via incident command.
