Carson City area weather: Breezy with sunny, cool conditions through weekend
Carson City and western Nevada will experience a cool down through this weekend with breezy conditions and sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from noon Thursday to 7 p.m. for areas west of Highway 95, west central Nevada Basin and Range, including Mineral and southern Lyon counties. At this time, Carson City is not in the Red Flag Warning area but conditions may change. We will update if conditions change.
Winds are from the west-southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph in areas east of Carson City, with between 9-18 percent humidity and climbing to 10 to 20 percent by Friday.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them. Winds Thursday and Friday will be sufficient to carry fire through areas with higher humidity, according to the weather service.
Forecasters urge people to avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
Meanwhile, Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County areas can expect a significant cool down beginning Thursday and lasting through the weekend. Daytime highs will be in in the low 70s Thursday, near 70 on Friday and Saturday and low 60s on Sunday with a slight chance of thunderstorms.
