Carson City arrest log: Two jailed after assaulting grocery store security

Two were arrested Saturday at a Carson City grocery store on misdemeanor battery and petit larceny charges after they allegedly struck loss prevention agents who had detained them for shoplifting, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 54-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, both of Carson City, were arrested at 7:24 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Carson Street. According to the booking report, an officer responded after learning the two were detained and being uncooperative, the arrest report states.

Two Raley’s loss prevention agents witnessed the suspects taking numerous items and putting them into a large purse before leaving the store without paying. The loss prevention agents identified themselves to the suspects and asked that they return the stolen items to the store.

The male suspected responded by pushing one agent away from the woman while she tried to run away. The second agent grabbed the woman and attempted to detain her. While the agent was detaining the woman, the man attempted to pull the agent off her. Both subjects continued to be combative and shouted profanities as they were transported back into the store, the arrest report states.

In the security office, a loss prevention agent attempted to pat the man down and secure his pocketknife. The subject struck the agent in the jaw with his elbow. The other agent attempted to pat the woman down and was struck twice in the face and kicked. When the officer arrived, the man was protesting loudly and attempting to get the loss prevention agents to drop the charges. The subjects were read their Miranda rights but continued to deny and talk about the situation. Bail: $1,489 each.

— A 49-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Monday, 3:42 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Carson Street on a misdemeanor charge, violation of conditions of alternative sentencing. The man was on Alternative Sentencing for felony domestic violation. His conditions were to obey all laws, submit to search and seizure, no contact with the domestic violence victim and no alcohol or drugs.
Officers were called to the location for a domestic dispute inside a hotel room. He was uncooperative with officers and emitted and odor of alcoholic beverage and had been with the victim. He refused to take a breath test. Bail: $3,000.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:10 p.m. in the 4100 block of Quinn Drive on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. Officers were called to the location after two reporting witnesses said a man and woman had been arguing outside, the man holding a gun and the woman a crowbar. Witnesses said the man shoved the woman. Interviewing officers made contact with the woman who said the man did have a handgun but did not point it at her.
A crow bar and handgun were not located, the arrest report states. The couple denied battering or shoving each other. Based on witness statements, the man was determined to be the primary aggressor. He provided a preliminary breath sample of .277. At jail he submitted to evidentiary breath tests of .273 and .259. The case has been moved to the DAs office for review. Bail: $3,000.

— A 35-year-old Reno man was arrested Sunday, 12:58 p.m. in the area of William and Curry streets on suspicion of DUI drugs. According to the arrest report, a reporting witness said the man was driving erratically, failing to maintain lanes. Officers arrived at the location where the man was standing outside his vehicle with a small dog. The officer explained why they were talking to him. The man said the dog was playing on his lap and he realized he did fail to maintain his lane. He admitted to taking prescription Ambien and Seboxin the night prior and said he consumed alcohol the evening prior. He showed no alcohol in his system for the preliminary breath test. He submitted to four field sobriety tests and did not show any signs of vision nystagmus. He failed the walk and turn test and one leg stand. He was arrested. The man advised he would participate in a blood draw. Bail: $1,137.

— A 30-year-old woman was booked Sunday into Carson City Jail on suspicion misdemeanor warrants, contempt of court and failure to appear. The contempt of court warrant was issued July 12, 2013 and the failure to appear warrant was issued Sept. 9, 2013 out of East Fork Township Justice Court. Bail: $1,511.

— A 47-year-old woman was arrested Saturday, 8:14 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Fifth Street on misdemeanor petit larceny. An officer was dispatched to the location on a petit larceny call. The officer stopped a female who fit the suspect description. The woman had a can of beer and admitted to walking out of the store with the beer without paying for it. Bail: $352.
