Carson City arrests: Man jailed for felony eluding, going wrong way on Highway 50 East
A Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning for suspicion of felony eluding after he fled a deputy on patrol with a speed of 100 mph and going the wrong way on Highway 50 East, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Matthew Shepley, 27, also faces misdemeanor charges of probation violation, no proof of insurance, driving on a revoked license and revoked and suspended registration.
According to the arrest report, at around 2:30 a.m. a deputy observed a vehicle driving on Highway 50 in a manner that endangered other drivers. The arrest report states the suspect traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes causing vehicles traveling west to pull to the shoulder of the roadway to prevent a head-on collision.
The man was located by Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies. He admitted to failing to yield and eluding.
During the course of the investigation, deputies learned the man did not have a valid license, and the vehicle he was driving had suspended registration and no proof of insurance. Bail: $24,150.
In other arrests:
— A 52-year-old Carson City man, Rick Lewis Chapman, was arrested Tuesday, 6:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of Market Street for suspicion of felony burglary and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to Home Depot for a report of a man inside the business selecting items from shelves and putting them into a backpack.
A deputy arrived and saw the suspect running from several employees toward a bike path. The man had the backpack slung over his shoulder. The deputy ordered the man to stop running multiple times. The suspect continued running and was taken to the ground by the deputy. He was identified by Home Depot staff as the man placing items, valued at $105.51, in the backpack. Bail: $20,352.
— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 11 a.m. in the 1700 block of Brown Street for three misdemeanor contempt of court warrants, two issued out of East Fork Township and two out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $6,750.
— A 65-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman was booked into jail Wednesday, 12:05 a.m. for a failure to appear traffic warrant issued in April out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $300.
— A 38-year-old Dayton man was arrested Tuesday, 9:10 p.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued out of East Fork Township. Bail: $215.
— Two Carson City men, ages 30 and 35, were arrested Tuesday in the area of Pine and Hampton streets. The 35-year-old man faces misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and violation of a suspended sentence. The 30-year-old man faces two contempt of court warrants.
— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday, 1:52 p.m. in the area of 20 College Parkway for misdemeanor use and possession of a drug for chemical euphoria. According to the arrest report, the woman admitted to inhaling a can of Dust Off, a product used to clean computer equipment and remove dust. Bail: $1,137.
— A 20-year-old Dayton man was arrested Tuesday, 11:16 a.m. for a misdemeanor warrant, violation of an extended protection order. Bail: $3,000.
— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 11:58 a.m., in the 1400 block of East Long Street, for a misdemeanor criminal contempt warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 7:21 a.m. in the 1000 block of Woodside Drive for a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant. Bail: $3,000.
