No shortage of train rides this weekend in Carson City and Virginia City

Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City continues its Memorial Day celebration, with steam train rides continuing Sunday and Monday beginning at 10 a.m.

Rides are approximately 30 minutes. Last ride departs the station at 2:40pm. The railroad museum is located at 2180 S Carson St, Carson City.

Meanwhile, the Carson City Railroad Association has opened its 2021 summer operating season at Mills Park. The Carson and Mills Park Railroad train will be running in Carson City’s Mills Park weekends from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. There were at least 180 riders for the first day of the season, which was Saturday. Rides resume Sunday beginning at noon.

The Virginia Truckee Railroad began its 46th season on Friday, May 28, 2021. Powered by a heritage diesel locomotive, the Virginia Truckee Railroad will be running roundtrips from Virginia City to Gold Hill on Sunday, and Monday May 29-31.

Daily tours will begin on June 4. This 35-minute ride runs seven times each day, beginning at 10:30 am. The last train leaves at 4 pm. Fares are $14 for adults and $7 for children ages 5-12. Kids aged four and under ride free. Tickets are available at the depot, or online at virginiatruckee.com.

The Friends of the Douglas County Library will host a two-day used book sale, Friday and Saturday, August 18-19, at the Minden Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden.

A preview sale for members of Friends of the Library will be from 3 to 5:30 pm on Friday. Non-members can join at the door. Members of the Friends receive a 10% discount on all purchases throughout the sale.

Thursday afternoon, several calls came into dispatch from concerned citizens after they witnessed a woman who appeared to be hallucinating.

When deputies located the woman, she did not speak to deputies and walked in the opposite direction. When deputies located her again, she was laying between a sidewall and a parking lot.

Because of rain, tonight's 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Jazz & Beyond performances have been moved.

Due to staffing shortages at Sand Harbor State Park, the Nevada Division of State Parks will be closing the boat ramp and adjacent parking lot within the park on Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning August 23.

During these closures, the public will need to use the boat ramp at Cave Rock State Park or another public boat ramp.

In addition to year-round restricted areas, enhanced fire restrictions are now in effect on National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin and will remain in effect through the end of December 2023, or until rescinded. Enhanced fire restrictions mean wood and charcoal fires are now prohibited in Blackwood Canyon, Luther Pass, and Watson Lake campgrounds. Portable stoves are allowed with a valid permit.

The last performance of the Levitt AMP summer concert series takes place this Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City, located at 449 W. King St.

The final performance features Shamarr Allen as headliner, and the fun begins at 7 p.m.

Amidst the growing concerns over the worldwide pilot shortage, opportunities are emerging for aspiring aviators to capitalize on the industry's demand. A 30-year-old Carson City man, Stephen Barns, was arrested in the 4000 block of S. Curry Tuesday evening for felony kidnapping, eluding with endangerment, obstruction, and possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There have been two major crashes at the intersection of US50 and SR28 on Spooner Summit in recent weeks, one of those crashes claiming the life of a 61-year-old man from Washington. Many are calling for a safer intersection in order to prevent more tragic crashes and further loss of life.
