Carson City arrests: Two jailed for obstructing after night of drinking and 4-wheeling

Two men were arrested early Thursday morning for misdemeanor obstructing and interfering with an officer, according to a Carson City sheriff's deputy report.

At 2:11 a.m. sheriff's deputies were called to the area of Terrace Street in reference to a report of four-wheeling on park property causing property damage, according to the arrest report.

Deputies arrived and observed a white 1990s model pickup driving in the sagebrush on the hillside behind 520 Terrace Street. A deputy drove around to McKay Street where there was a trailhead to access. At this time the vehicle was stuck on the hillside.

A deputy got out of his vehicle to make contact with the pickup, which then freed itself from the hillside and started to travel northbound on a trail away from the officer. The deputy returned to his patrol vehicle and went to King Street where he believed the vehicle would come off the trial.

The deputy observed the vehicle going westbound on King Street as the deputy was going eastbound. The deputy turned his patrol vehicle around and the pickup began to speed up. The deputy could not catch up to the vehicle quick enough before it turned southbound on Ormsby Boulevard. The deputy went to a trail access point, and located the vehicle, which was unoccupied, the arrest report states.

Additional deputies arrived and searched the open brush area. One occupant was located 20 yards east of the vehicle in the sagebrush hiding. The 25-year-old was handcuffed. The man had a strong odor of alcohol on him. He stated he was not the driver.

He told the deputy that his friend and roommate had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend and so the two of them went out drinking and four-wheeling. He did not tell the deputy who his roommate was, the arrest report states.

The other subject was found in the bushes 50 yards from the vehicle. Deputies handcuffed the 27-year-old man. He stated he was not driving the vehicle. He was verbally uncooperative and stated that he was on a walk. He would not answer questions regarding the incident and stated several times that neither he or the other man were driving the vehicle, the arrest report states.

Both were taken into custody at 2:45 a.m. for obstructing/interfering with a police officer. Bail: $412 each.

In other arrests:
— A 71-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 3:53 p.m. for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, a sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was called to the area of a north Carson City convenience store for a report of an intoxicated man who had driven his vehicle from the gas pumps to a parking spot on the east side of the business.

Two witnesses saw the man stumble out of the store and was having difficulty maintaining his balance as he was attempting to pump gas.

A witness made contact with the man, who admitted to them that he had been drinking alcohol, the arrest report states. The witness watched the man get into his car and drive to the north side of the building and park.

No one else was in the vehicle with the driver. The deputy met with the man, and observed a moderate odor of alcohol on his breath. His speech was slurred and he had difficulty maintaining balance. He attempted to do standardized field sobriety tests but those were stopped for fear of him losing balance and falling.

A preliminary breath test showed him to be over .08. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he voluntarily submitted to preliminary breath tests with results of .205 and .202. Bail: $1,137.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 12:19 a.m. in the area of North Carson and Bath streets for a misdemeanor warrant alleging petit theft. The warrant was issued May 24, 2019 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— All information for the crime log (unless otherwise noted) comes from the arrest reports supplied by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and is considered by law to be public information.
