Carson City's Cowboys Liquor host fundraiser tasting for MPS disease support and research
Cowboys Liquor in Carson City has partnered with Tito's Hand Made Vodka for a tasting event fundraiser this Friday to raise money for the MPS Society, which supports families and provides research to find a cure for the hereditary disease.
The tasting is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 17 and will feature several vendors who will pour an array of beverage samples, including Tito's vodka, Frank Family Wines, Verdi Local Whiskeys, Hop Valley beers and more. There will be food and raffle prizes as well. Entrance to the event is $10.
MPS is the acronym for Mucopolysaccharidoses, a disease caused by the body's inability to produce specific enzymes. As the disease progresses, there is widespread damage throughout the body including the heart, bones, joints, respiratory system and central nervous system. It is estimated that one in every 25,000 babies born in the United States will have some form of Mucopolysaccharidoses. May 15 was officially designated as International MPS Awareness Day.
