Carson City arrests: Man jailed for battery after throwing punches at bar staff

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor battery following an incident at a Highway 50 East bar.

According to the booking report, deputies responded to the bar in reference to a battery. Officers were advised the suspect left the scene. Arriving deputies spoke with employees who said the man was drunk, aggressive and was escorted outside the bar by two bouncers.

Once the suspect was outside, he began to swing punches at both bouncers. Both bouncers stated the man struck them in the face. Both declined to press charges. A third employee stepped outside to help, in which the suspect took a fighting stance and threw a punch, striking the employee. The third victim stated they wanted to press charges if the man was caught.

The suspect was located nearby. He stated bar staff tried to pick a fight with him so he had to "step up," the report states. The man admitted to striking bar staff, stating it was self-defense.

According to the booking report, the arresting deputy had been on another call earlier in the day with the same suspect who was at a casino and was attempting to fight staff there as well. Bail: $1,137.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for multiple offenses including two counts alleged gross misdemeanor destruction of property and four misdemeanor offenses after he drove through the fences or two residences.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to Fairview and North Edmonds in reference to a vehicle crashing into fences. Deputies spoke with the driver of the vehicle who identified himself. He did not have any signs or symptoms of intoxication. He stated he was driving home from work when a motorcycle rider would not stop tailgating him. He said the motorcyclist passed him several times and slammed on his brakes in front of him. He stated this continued from Fairview to Roop Street until he tried to pass the motorcycle rider at Fairview and North Edmonds.

The driver stated when he attempted to pass, the motorcycle rider accelerated and darted in front of him and that he swerved out of the way in order not to hit the motorcyclist and lost control of his vehicle.

According to the booking report, the driver's speed was determined by tire marks on the road, in which he was going approximately 16 mph to 20 mph over the posted 35 mph speed limit. The booking report states the driver failed to maintain a lane and crashed the vehicle into two separate property backyard fences.

The driver stated he does not have a valid driver's license. He had no visible injuries and refused medical treatment. The deputy arrested him for reckless driving, destruction of property, failure to maintain a lane, basic speeding and driving without a valid license. Bail: $5,048.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning for a felony failure to appear warrant, suspicion of misdemeanor obstructing and violation of a suspended sentence.

Nicholas Tyler Whitton was taken into custody at 3:27 a.m. following an investigation, in which it was learned he had a warrant for his arrest.

Officers learned of the warrant after the suspect initially provided a deputy with a false name, date of birth and social security number. After he was arrested, the suspect told the deputy he wanted to tell the truth and provided real information. There's a no-bail hold for the warrant.

— A 49-year-old man was arrested Monday for misdemeanor suspicion of being a drunken pedestrian in the roadway. According to the booking report, CCSO was contacted about an intoxicated man sitting on patio furniture at a residence.

The homeowner advised they didn't want to press charges on the man. The intoxicated man was then located at another residence, where he attempted to gain access in the backyard. The homeowner told the man to leave. The man was stopped in a heavily trafficked area.

The officer took the man into custody fearing that he may be struck by a vehicle as he was found walking in the street. The man blew a preliminary breath test of .265 on scene and .279 at the jail. Bail: $72.
