Man arrested after allegedly preventing elderly mother from calling police following altercation
A 60-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday evening in the 1800 block of Russell Way for domestic battery, attempted false imprisonment, and felony prevention of a victim calling 911.
Antonio Arturo Pagliaro was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the area on reports of a domestic battery. The caller stated her son, identified as Pagliaro, had pushed her to the ground during an argument and that he had a knife in his possession.
Upon arrival, deputies located the mother outside of her apartment who appeared short of breath and had an oxygen tube in her hand, according to the report. She said her son was still in the apartment and was still armed with a knife.
Deputies made contact with Pagliaro, who was cooperative. He told deputies he was cooking dinner for his mother when they began to argue about money. He said she began to throw fruit and did not want to eat dinner.
Pagliaro told deputies he was “concerned for her lack of food intake,” according to the report, and that she became agitated and wanted to leave the apartment. He said he began to physically struggle with her while she was attempting to leave the apartment, and he grabbed her walker to prevent her from leaving while he pinned his foot against the apartment door.
During the altercation, he said, she fell to the ground. She then got back up, secured her walker, and sat down at the dinner table. She asked for the phone, and Pagliaro told deputies he thought she wanted to call 911, and so he unplugged the phone and put it under the sink. He stated he told his mother she had to eat, then she could call 911.
After she ate dinner, he went into his room to watch TV, and a while later he heard the front door slam. He said he assumed she had left the apartment, and soon after, the police arrived.
He was taken into custody without incident on the above charges.
