'Maya's Mind' 20-foot art sculpture installed Saturday in the downtown Carson City area

New York Times bestselling author and Holocaust historian Max Wallace will be in Lake Tahoe to talk about his new book, In the Name of Humanity: The Secret Deal to End the Holocaust, on July 28, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Chabad at Lake Tahoe.

The book details an audacious scheme by a rescue committee of Swiss Orthodox Jews led by a remarkable woman named Recha Sterbuch.

Ghost is a 8 year old American Pit Bull Terrier with a whole bunch of tricks up his sleeve. He's a very good boy and knows how to sit, lay down, come, shake, and sit up pretty! Pretty impressive, I say.

He's an easy going pup just looking for a new home to perform his tricks.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area to help the next three days breeze by. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

UPDATE 2:53PM FROM CARSON CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT: At approximately 12:41 p.m. crews were dispatched to a brush fire in the area of Longview Way, Manhattan Dr., and Spencer St. About 25 firefighters arrived on scene. Upon arrival, firefighters observed large amounts of smoke near residential structures and quickly gained access to the brush fire adjacent to the structures. See the video here.

The fire was declared under control at approximately 1:10 p.m. Crews will remain on scene until released.

Last Saturday morning 15 intrepid Carson City area "Trash Mobbers" came out to clean up the wetlands to protect the birds and wildlife. We met near the Humane Society on Airport and then walked along the Carson Freeway Multi-Use two thirds of mile to access the wetlands area.

Carson City School District’s Risk Manager Ann Cyr was recognized during the school board meeting Tuesday night for her safety efforts throughout the district.

Alan Kalt, chief financial officer from Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool and Public Agency Compensation Trust also known as POOL PACT, presented the district a Loss Control Excellence Award with a plaque and a check in the amount of $3,500 for the continued safety effort.

Tuesday evening made for spectacular photography as the sun was setting throughout western Nevada and Sierra. These photos of the wave of standing lenticular clouds were taken by Nicole Hooper in Dayton. The first three show the range of the cloud formations and the fourth photo was taken Wednesday morning, where Hooper notes "this morning was pretty too."
