3rd Street parking lot project construction to begin in July, Farmers Market moving to Stewart Street

The 3rd Street parking lot, home to the Carson City Farmers Market for more than a decade, will undergo a full renovation beginning in early July and will last through the fall.

According to Darren Anderson, project manager for the Public Works Department, the department recently received bids for the Curry Street and 3rd Street Parking Lot Project, and are planning to take the project to an upcoming Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, recommending awarding the contract to the lowest bidder.

The planned start date of construction will be July 1, according to Anderson, with an anticipated construction end date of Nov. 30.

“Public Works has been in discussions with many of the businesses within the project limits, as well as the Farmer’s Market, and will continue these outreach efforts,” said Anderson.

The project also includes Curry Street between 5th and Musser in addition to the redesign of the 3rd Street parking lot.

The project will consist of utility replacements, paving of the parking lot, sidewalk improvements, landscaping, lighting upgrades, and the under grounding of overhead power lines.

The Carson Farmers Market will relocate to the parking lot east of the Nugget at 412 N. Stewart Street while renovations are taking place. As always, the Carson Farmers Market will open on the first Saturday of June through the last Saturday of September, and will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
