Carson City area weather: Big cool down ahead with valley rain, Sierra snow
The warming trend gripping Carson City will stick around for the next couple of days, with highs in the mid 80s today and upper 70s Friday before a big change arrives for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
By Saturday, low pressure will bring much cooler conditions and rain to the valleys and snow in the Sierra, with valley highs mainly in the 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
Rain and showers are likely, with a few thunderstorms possible. The Sierra snowfall could have some impact to motorists on Saturday as snow levels could drop below 7,000 feet, perhaps as low as 6,000 feet. This could lead to several inches of accumulation above 7,000 feet, 6-12 inches is not out of the question above 8,000 feet in the Sierra.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, the showers may stick around until Monday, according to the weather service.
Those with travel and/or outdoor plans will want to keep an eye on the forecast and consider alternate plans. Anyone planning to hike or camp in higher elevations of the Sierra should dress warmly and bring winter gear, especially for Saturday night.
