WNC Baseball: Wildcats, Coyotes open key series Thursday in Carson City
Western Nevada College's showdown with College of Southern Nevada for the Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball title is in the hands of Mother Nature.
With rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for most of the week, the SWAC's top two teams have decided to move up their series a day.
Hence, the rivals will launch their four-game series with a noon doubleheader Thursday at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City. A doubleheader is also scheduled for noon Friday. Game times are subject to change, depending upon weather conditions.
Wildcats coach D.J. Whittemore also plans to honor his sophomore players on Friday.
The teams are separated by 2 games entering the final week of the regular season. WNC needs to sweep the Coyotes to win the regular-season title and the right to host the Region 18 tournament the following week.
WNC is 36-16 overall and 26-10 in SWAC contests. The Coyotes, ranked No. 17 by the National Junior College Athletic Association and No. 19 by Perfect Game, are 37-11 overall and 27-6 in conference games.
