Gravity powers dozens of Cub Scouts at Trailblazer Adventure Day
Nevada Area Council of Boy Scouts of America held its Cub Scouts Home Depot Trailblazer Adventure Day and Cub Mobile Derby at the South Reno Home Depot on Steamboat Parkway on Saturday, May 2, and it was a day devoted to Scouting and just plain fun.
Scores of youngsters — boys and girls — participated in homemade vehicle races, slingshot competitions, and craft projects sponsored by Home Depot. Also on hand were the Nevada Department of Transportation, units from the Nevada Highway Patrol, and the Sparks Police Department with its SWAT vehicle and more.
This all-day event drew attendees from Cub Scout Packs from around Carson City, Gardnerville and Reno-Sparks areas for the activities.
Primary photo: They’re off! Cub Scouts (and parents) built their entries and then raced them in the Cub Mobile Derby at The Home Depot located on Steamboat Parkway in Reno. Entries ranged from the simple to the more elaborate.
Photo 2: As Dad pushes the Cub Mobile, Blake Morgan finishes his run. Helping guide his friend’s entry is Darren Weimer. The boys are members of Gardnerville’s Pack 411. Dad praised the Carson City Home Depot for its help in putting the vehicle together.
Photo 3: Home Depot provided craft kits for the Cub Scouts. Here the boys work on dinosaur heads and they were creative in adding spikes to the dinosaur’s heads making them a little more scary.
