Business Spotlight: Fine Italian dining at the Carson Nugget

Angelina’s Italian Bistro, the newest fine dining Italian restaurant in Carson City, is celebrating its grand opening now through Sunday inside the Carson Nugget.

The restaurant officially opened Feb. 2, said Carson Nugget Director of Operations Tim Morrissey, replacing the Carson Nugget Steakhouse.

Morrissey said Angelina's Italian Bistro is a nod to Carson Nugget owner Dean DiLullo’s family.

His grandmother, Angelina, developed recipes as a child while growing up in Southern Italy during World War I. The cuisine she created is now available on the restaurant’s menu.

“We designed the entire menu around her recipe book,” Morrissey said.

But that doesn’t mean the Nugget has left out the old favorites that long-time locals have come to enjoy over the years.

“You can still enjoy a lot of the favorites from the old steakhouse,” Morrissey said, noting that the menu includes several steak dishes that keep the memory of the Carson Nugget Steakhouse alive.

In addition to the cuisine, the former steakhouse boasts a new look that harkens back to the old days among the Southern Italian vineyards.

Tasteful interior design includes all new lighting, tables and furnishings.
Patrons are also treated to the visual delights of murals painted by local Reno artist Eric Burke.

The seating capacity has been expanded from 90 patrons – which the steakhouse held – to 130 with the addition of a new patio off the main dining room.

There is also a family dining room available for private parties with seating for up to eight people. Here guests can dine family-style, the way it’s done in the old world.

The grand opening of Angelina’s Italian Bistro is the latest in the Carson Nugget’s efforts to focus on improving its culinary services, Morrissey said.

“Ever since Dean purchased the Nugget, we’ve spent the last two years renovating the food side,” he said.

Morrissey said the ownership has set its sights on creating a reputation in town for superior culinary arts and cuisine.

“We’ve positioned our culinary program to reach a level that will put us at the forefront of Carson City’s restaurant scene,” he said.

But high quality eats don’t have to come at a high price, Morrissey said.
He said that’s why DiLullo decided to keep the costs of menu items affordable for patrons.

“Nothing on the menu is over $20,” Morrissey said. “Good food does not have to be expensive.”

Angelina’s Italian Bistro kicked off its grand opening celebration Thursday. It runs through May 1 with special menu items, prizes, and giveaways.

The restaurant is currently open four days a week, Thursday through Sunday, from 4 to 10 p.m.
