Suspect in March death of Carson City toddler faces contempt of court charge
A man being held at Carson City jail in connection as a suspect in the March 17 death of a toddler faces a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court after allegedly making phone calls from jail to a person he was ordered by the court not to have contact with, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Eric Anthony Buhl admitted to a law officer that he had contacted a person to sheriff’s deputies after a sergeant had been advised of five calls he made to a phone number from April 23 to April 25.
It was ordered by the court April 5 that he could not contact the person, according to the booking report.
Buhl, 26, was listed as a suspect in the death of 2-1/2 year-old Coahuyana Hernandez. Buhl was the caretaker looking after the girl. His bail has been set at $250,000. The bail amount for the contempt of court charge is $3,000.
In other arrests:
— A 51-year-old Carson City man, Brian Collins, was arrested Tuesday, 8:31 p.m. in the area of Pasture Drive for felony suspicion of false imprisonment and destruction of property. Bail for the charges $26,137. No bail hold in lieu of a hearing.
— A 37-year-old Carson City man, Robert Reasoner, turned himself into Carson City jail deputies Wednesday, 3:05 a.m. for two misdemeanor violation of pretrial condition warrants for drug use. He had been arrested previously on felony drug charges. Bail: $6,000.
— A transient, Wiley Washam, was arrested Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of East William Street for felony suspicion of giving false information to an officer to avoid prosecution, possession of a controlled substance and a failure to appear warrant out of Sparks Township Court. Bail: $12,500 for the Carson City charges and a no bail hold for the Sparks warrant. A 34-year-old woman was also arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
— A Reno man was arrested Tuesday, 11:20 a.m. at a behavioral health facility in the 1000 block of Minnesota Street, for suspicion of gross misdemeanor battery on a peace officer, two misdemeanor counts of battery and property destruction.
Carson City sheriff’s deputies were called to the area for a report of a man allegedly battering staff members and destroying property at the facility. A Carson City sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and was bit by the man. The man was tasered and take into custody. Bail amount for the charges, $4,396. He is being held without bail on a Legal 2000 mental health hold.
— A 28-year-old transient was arrested Tuesday, 4:13 p.m. in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue for misdemeanor petit larceny. The man allegedly stole a beer, valued at $2.49, telling the store clerk: “I’m sorry but I’m going to be a pain. I am going to steal this and I don’t really care what you do,” the arrest report states.
The man told the investigating officer he stole the beer and drank it. He then stood up and took a defensive stance toward the officer. The deputy asked the man to sit down. The suspect ignored requests and stared down the officer, the arrest report states. After multiple requests the man sat down. The officer asked for his name and the man said the deputy did not need to know. He eventually identified himself, told the officer he took the beer and would continue to steal things. Bail: $307.
— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 4:36 p.m. for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. The man allegedly began arguing with his girlfriend, grabbed her by the arms and slammed her against a wall. Deputies observed bruising consistent with grab marks. Bail: $3,137.
— A 48-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday, 9:08 a.m. in the area of Fairview and Fifth Street for three counts misdemeanor failure to appear warrants, a contempt of court warrant and basic speeding. According to the arrest report, the woman was stopped for traveling 54 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. Deputies learned of the four confirmed warrants. Bail: $1,980.
