Latest phone scam: Victims told to pay Carson City Sheriff's Office or go to jail
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday sent out a public warning regarding a person who is identifying themselves as a law enforcement officer and is telling victims to provide money to pay the sheriff’s office or go to jail.
The victims are told the money is for court fees, bonds, contempt of court, failure to appear for jury duty or outstanding warrant fees and if they don't pay up they're going to jail, said CCSO Detective Steven Olson. The victims are instructed to have a form of payment ready and to contact a phone number at a later time.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has not made any of these requests and is advising this is a scam.
