Carson City arrests: Woman jailed after attacks on landscapers, bank employees

A 70-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery after allegedly slapping his wife during an argument, a sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched at 12:32 p.m. to the 500 block of Colorado Street in reference to a domestic battery. The officer met the suspect outside the residence. He stated his wife has a bad temper and he slapped her on the left side of her face with his right hand, the arrest report states.

The man stated he has been married to his wife since 2005. The deputy spoke with the victim who stated she was arguing with her husband’s sister.

The victim said her husband yelled at her and then slapped her on the left side of her face. She stated she became angry and began throwing objects from the kitchen at her husband to get him away from her, according to the report.

The victim had a slight discoloration to her left cheek, the report states. The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

In other arrests:
— A 49-year-old transient woman was arrested Monday, 4 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Carson Street for two counts suspicion of misdemeanor battery and one count misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

According to the arrest report, the woman allegedly attempted to attack a landscaping crew in the area of South Carson and Rhodes streets. The woman left the area before officers arrived and the landscapers did not wish to pursue charges.

Several minutes later, staff at Wells Fargo Bank on South Carson Street called 911 to report a female had battered people at the business. Arriving deputies learned the woman attempted to grab and drag one victim outside the bank, in which several employees intervened. When the bank manager attempted to calm the hostile suspect, she was shoved in the chest, according to the arrest report.

A male employee stepped in and put himself between the suspect and the bank manager. The woman responded by taking wild swings at the man, attempting to punch him in the head. A deputy arrived on scene and witnessed the woman swinging at the man, the arrest report states.

A deputy attempted to interview the woman. She was subsequently arrested. The woman screamed and kicked violently in the back of the patrol vehicle and stated her name was Alexis Van Halen and gave a date of birth that would have made her in her mid 20s. The officer noted she clearly looked older. She also told the deputy the people inside the bank had changed their hair color, which meant they were planning to attack, the report states.

At jail she was escorted inside the rubber holding cell. Deputies were unable to determine if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Jail staff noted they could smell alcohol on her breath.

Dispatch searched multiple systems to locate information about the woman after she had provided several names and places of birth. Dispatch was able to identify the woman through multiple contacts with law enforcement in California and had 7 different alias names. Bail: $2,516.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 8:55 a.m. for a contempt of court warrant issued March 6, 2018 out of East Fork Township Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday in the 1400 block of East William Street for suspicion of gross misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was driving eastbound on East William Street when he observed a man walking in the middle of the westbound number 2 lane.

The officer turned his patrol car around an initiated a pedestrian stop. The officer asked the man why he was walking in the middle of the road. The man replied “because there are no cars,” the arrest report states.

The officer asked the man if he had any weapons on his person. The man replied “yes” and said he had a pair of brass knuckles in his left rear pocket. The deputy instructed the man to turn around and place his hands on his head.

The deputy retrieved the brass knuckles from the left rear pocket and did a pat search for any other weapons. None were found. The man did have a marijauna pipe with a trace amount of marijuana.

The officer asked dispatch to run the man’s name in the data base. There was a return with an active warrant out of Carson City Justice Court for failure to appear on a traffic citation. He was arrested for the misdemeanor warrant and gross misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon and dangerous weapon. Bail: $5,175.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.
