Airports in Carson City, Reno, Lyon and Douglas to receive CARES Act funding boost
The U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration announced Tuesday that Nevada has been awarded more than $230 million in aid to 30 airports — including Carson City, Minden-Tahoe, Silver Springs, Yerington, Reno-Tahoe International and Fallon — in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nevada will receive a total of $231,448,014 in funding to be disbursed among the Silver State's 30 commercial and general aviation airports.
Among the northern Nevada regional airports to receive aid:
— Carson City Airport, $69,000
— Fallon Municipal Airport, $30,000
— Minden-Tahoe Airport, $69,000
— Reno-Stead Airport, $30,000
— Reno-Tahoe International Airport, $30,957,866
— Silver Springs Airport, $20,000
— Yerington Municipal Airport, $30,000
“A big thanks to the hardworking folks at the FAA for swiftly implementing this completely new program in less than two weeks," said Nevada District 2 Congressman Mark Amodei, who made the announcement. "This immediate relief will save jobs, address current challenges, and allow Nevada’s airports to maintain operations."
A total of $10 billion in federal aid was included in the CARES Act for airports experiencing severe economic disruption caused by coronavirus.
Under this new CARES Act Airport Program:
— Primary commercial service airports, with more than 10,000 annual passenger boardings, will receive additional funds based on the number of annual boardings, in a similar way to how they currently receive Airport Improvement Program (AIP) entitlement funds.
— All commercial service airports will receive funds based on the number of passengers that board aircraft there, the amount of debt an airport has, and the amount of money the airport has in reserve.
— General aviation airports will receive funds based on their airport categories, such as National, Regional, Local, Basic, and Unclassified.
