Carson Senators hold ceremony for Timothy Jones at Ron McNutt Field
The Carson High Senators varsity baseball team and fans in attendance paid tribute to Timothy Jones in a commemorative ceremony Saturday at Ron McNutt field.
An automobile accident off Kings Canyon Road on Nov. 9, 2017 claimed the life of Jones and injured several other students.
Players and coaches from both Carson and McQueen high schools lined up along the first and third base lines during a pre-game speech, where a jersey and plaque were presented in honor of Jones.
Jones thrived as both a student and an athlete, participating in Little League and joining the Carson High Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity baseball teams. He was also an honors student at CHS.
For this reason and many others, a Timothy Jones Award was presented to represent the various qualities Jones exhibited on and off the field.
Senators center fielder Landon Truesdale, who wore the No. 3 jersey in honor of Jones, was selected Saturday as the Award's first-ever recipient.
“I am honored to represent Timmy anyway possible,” Truesdale said. “He meant so much to us as a teammate, but most importantly as a person. He was such a great kid with a warm smile that put everyone in a better mood.”
Carson head coach Brian Manoukian also described the impact Jones had on the baseball team.
“Words can’t express how his absence has affected us,” he said. “It was such a tragic loss, but today was a nice opportunity to do something positive and celebrate his life for what he was as a player and a person. His impact was invaluable on our team, win or lose and he will be missed.”
On the field, a five-run second inning and seven-run seventh inning would ultimately propel the McQueen Lancers over the Carson Senators by a score of 12-2.
Carson returns home April 19 to face-off against the Galena Grizzlies.
