Weather Service: Stronger, colder weather system to punch Tahoe on Tuesday
Snow showers in the Sierra will continue through Sunday night, with breezy conditions in the Carson City area tapering off later in the evening, according to the National Weather Service.
After a break Monday, another spring storm system will push into the region Tuesday with the heaviest snow expected in the Lake Tahoe area during the daytime hours.
Several inches is expected from Tahoe south into Mono County, according to the weather service. Because it is a colder, stronger system, there is the potential for a light spillover of snow into western Nevada, including the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas.
Showers may linger over the Sierra and northwest Nevada through early Wednesday morning. This will be a cold system and snow levels will likely fall below 4000 feet, however due to the April sun angle, accumulations on roadways will be limited, especially below 6000 feet.
If you have travel plans in the Sierra, be sure to allow extra time and carry chains. Light rain and snow showers are also possible in western Nevada, but there will be little if any snow accumulation.
