Carson City residents experience colored tap water as public works does system flushes
Carson City residents experienced discolored tap water on Tuesday, which, according to Carson City Public Works, is caused by non-toxic, naturally occurring minerals that have accumulated in the water system. Public Works is currently spot checking and flushing the water systems and taps should be all clear within 24-hours.
Public Works released this statement on its Facebook page around noon Tuesday:
"We are experiencing areas of discolored water throughout Carson City. Crews are currently working throughout the City spot checking and flushing the system where needed. The discoloration is caused by naturally occurring minerals which accumulate in our water system; it is not harmful. Please avoid washing light colored laundry if your water is discolored. Any discoloration is expected to clear up within 24 hours. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at 887-2355."
Areas affected, according to the map, appear to be widespread, reaching as south as Koontz Street, as north as Hot Springs Road, with a western marker of Ormsby Road and an eastern marker of Fairview Drive.
This comes a day after a water main broke in the area of Curry and Ann Streets early Monday morning, the cause of which is still unknown.
