Gas smell at Carson City grocery store determined to be from semi truck blown tire at loading dock
Carson City Fire Department responded early Wednesday evening to a reported gas leak at a South Carson Street grocery store. The gas smell was determined to be coming from a semi-truck that had blown a tire.
At 6:23 p.m. the fire department and sheriff's deputies were called to a reported gas leak at the Save Mart store at 4843 South Carson Street. CCFD arrived and, according to a battalion chief on scene, smelled a strong odor of natural gas in the back loading end of the store.
Occupants within the store were evacuated briefly as fire department personnel scoured the property to locate the point of origin of any potential gas leak.
A grocery store truck that had left the area at around the same time of the call, was stopped and was checked for possible accidental emission of leaking propane.
A Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy made a traffic stop on the truck and learned the vehicle had blown a tire, which had caused a similar natural gas stench. The blown tire was determined to be the cause of the gas smell, according to the battalion chief.
