Carson City arrests: Man crashes into fence, jailed for DUI
A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday at 6:13 a.m. near the intersection of Silver Oak and North Carson Street for misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol, expired registration, no proof of insurance, driving left of center, and driving on the sidewalk, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.
A sheriff's deputy responded to a report of a vehicle crash and met with the suspect, who advised his vehicle malfunctioned, causing him to travel left of center up onto a sidewalk and crash into a fence, the arrest report said.
The suspect appeared highly intoxicated with red, watery eyes, slurred speech and a noticeable sway as he walked, the report said.
He agreed to participate in standard field sobriety tests, which showed signs of impairment. The suspect was unable to keep his head still during the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, and the walk-and-turn test was stopped for safety because the suspect could not get into the starting stance without falling over.
A partial preliminary breath test yielded a result of 0.264 percent breath-alcohol content (BAC), the report said. The suspect was then handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Total bail: $2,230.
