NHP: Trooper sustains minor injuries after Carson City accident
The Nevada Highway Patrol reports the following regarding a patrol car that was hit in a Carson City traffic accident on Thursday night. A Carson City deputy was also injured in a second accident.
At about 8:09 Thursday night a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper drove up to a single vehicle accident in the southbound lane on Highway 395 at the off-ramp to Carson Street. The accident involved a red Oldsmobile driven by a Carson City resident, reports Trooper Dan Lopez.
While investigating the first accident a white Hyundai lost control blocking the off-ramp. A white van driving to fast for conditions lost control striking the Hyundai and then hitting the patrol vehicle with the trooper still in the driver’s seat, and again hitting the red Oldsmobile, Lopez said.
This accident is being investigated by NHP, Lopez said. The trooper sustained minor injuries and was taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital for precautionary measures.
Carson City Sheriff’s Department responded to assist in traffic control driving up on another disabled vehicle in the number one traffic lane prior to Highway 395 off-ramp to Carson Street, Lopez said.
The deputy was setting up safety flares for the vehicle when a silver Saturn driven by Cecilia Rose Norma Ristau a 20 year-old Carson resident traveling southbound lost control sliding on the snow covered roadway towards the Deputy.
The Saturn begins to spin sideways while the Deputy attempts to run from the vehicle. The Saturn strikes the deputy sending him over the hood of the vehicle, and the Saturn continued into the cement barrier wall. The deputy was transported to the Carson Tahoe Hospital for minor injuries.
Ristau was arrested and faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, DUI drugs, speed to fast for conditions and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Saturn had three other occupants in the Saturn including Eric Augustas Segan who was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
