Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Felony methamphetamine busts made Friday
Two women were arrested Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of South Carson Street, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said, each for felony suspicion of possession of methamphetamine.
Veronica Martinez, 48, of Sacramento, CA, and Kay Underwood, 40, were traveling in a van along South Carson Street when a Sheriff's deputy motor officer behind them was alerted to the odor of marijuana coming from their vehicle, the arrest report stated.
A traffic stop was conducted and upon contact with the officer, a third male passenger admitted to using marijuana while the vehicle was moving. The male was issued a citation for a marijuana cigarette and was later released, the report said.
A deputy had the driver of the vehicle, Underwood, step out of the van and asked if she had been smoking marijuana or doing any other drugs. Underwood admitted to smoking marijuana and methamphetamine that morning, but she said she was not high at the moment and satisfactorily completed standard field sobriety tests, the arrest report said.
K-9 deputy Ivo arrived at one point to conduct an exterior sniff of the van and alerted to drugs, the report said. Ivo and another deputy then located a suspected methamphetamine pipe inside of a pizza box positioned next to where Martinez had been sitting.
Martinez had been messing with the box just before exiting the van, the report said.
A search of Underwood’s purse yielded a small baggie containing a white powdery substance and several other baggies with white residue, which tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine.
Underwood and Martinez were subsequently handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia was added to Martinez's arrest. Bail: $3,637 and $2,500 respectively.
