Nevada public safety agencies adopt 'Share the Road' campaign for motorists, bicyclists

Spring is here which means Nevadans will be taking to the road to get some exercise and soak up some sun, so you will begin to see more people biking along the roads in Nevada.
The Department of Public Safety, Nevada Highway Patrol along with the Nevada Department of Transportation and Regional Transportation Commission have adopted the Share the Road campaign in Northern Nevada.
The campaign is to advise the motoring public of the laws pertaining to sharing the road with bicyclists’. Nevada Revised Statue 484B.270 relates to vehicles, bicycles and electric bicycles and the drivers duty of due care; additional penalty of driver is proximate cause of collision with person riding bicycle.
It’s the Law: (a) if there is more than one lane for traffic proceeding in the same direction, move the vehicle to the lane to the immediate left, if the lane is available and moving into the lane is reasonably safe. (b) if there is only one lane for traffic proceeding in the same direction, pass to the left of the bicycle or electric bicycle at a safe distance, which must be not less than 3 feet between any portion of the vehicle and the bicycle or electric, and shall mot move again to the right side of the highway until the vehicle is safely clear of the overtaken bicycle or electric bicycle.
Nevada is currently ranked 20th out of the 50 states as related to the five categories of bicycle safety, the categories include Legislation and enforcement, Policies and Programs, Infrastructure and funding, Education and Encouragement and Evaluation and Planning.
The Concept for Share the Road is to use both education and enforcement to reduce violations of NRS 484B.270, thereby reducing the probability of motor vehicle v. bicyclist crashes.
The Department of Public Safety, Nevada Highway Patrol along with the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Regional Transportation commission wants to advise that in the near future and throughout the spring and summer months they will be stepping up enforcement all around Northern Nevada to ensure that motor vehicles are sharing the roads with the bicyclists and reducing the accidents between the two.
