Several accidents and spinouts reported tonight in Carson City, Lakeview area
UPDATED: 10:25PM: Multiple vehicle accidents have been reported tonight throughout Carson City because of the winter storm, including two accidents involving patrol officers.
A Nevada Highway Patrol officer and a Carson City sheriff's deputy were reportedly involved in two separate accidents, both in the Lakeview area, after being hit by vehicles spinning out on the road, according to dispatchers. Both officers are reportedly OK, with the deputy reportedly suffering some injuries.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports that a deputy was injured when a vehicle, going about 20 mph, slid into him as he was putting flares on the road.
"He's bruised up and beat up but he's going to be OK," said Furlong.
The spinouts and accidents have been so numerous that the southbound off-ramp was closed at about 9 p.m. tonight as Carson City Fire and Rescue made its way up the hill to each individual accident and spinout checking for injuries.
The flurry of accidents began once temperatures dropped and snow began to stick along the roads. About four inches of snow has fallen throughout Carson City tonight.
"My advice to those on the road tonight is to be careful," said Furlong.
The Nevada Department of Transportation has been busy keeping up with the storm, and has reportedly been asked by patrol officers and dispatch to do more sanding and snow removal, especially in the Lakeview and Highway 395 area.
