A hearing to discuss the future of Argent Preparatory Academy in Carson City began Friday morning and is still in session at the Nevada Legislature.
Chief among the discussion items at the hearing, conducted by the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA), is the possibility of closing Argent Preparatory Academy as a state public charter school, the public meeting notice reads.
Students, parents and staff members of Argent Preparatory Academy — formerly known as Silver State Charter School — were among those who crowded the second floor hearing room to testify before the SPCSA Board about the merits of the school in an effort to prevent its closure.
More than a dozen students and parents from Argent Preparatory Academy lined North Carson Street in front of the Nevada Legislature to demonstrate against the school's possible closure.
Neither officials with the SPCSA nor Argent Preparatory Academy are available for comment at this time. This story is developing and updates will be provided as information becomes available.
