Carson City gang awareness workshop brings families with questions; next meeting Thursday
The workshop was packed with parents wanting to educate themselves on this critical community issue. Carson City Juvenile Probation Officer Miguel Albarran and Paola Villagrana educated families regarding signs to look for with their children, violence and how to solve these problems.
"There is so much value in parents getting ahead of this problem and being aware of what to look for with their kids," said Officer Albarran.
Officer Villagrana added, “as a community, it is important we wrap our arms around this problem and do our best to address these issues before these kids become too far involved in the gang life.”
Two ex-Carson City gang members attended the class and spoke to the parents about their real live experience as a gang member, gave them tips on what to look for, and how to address the problem in their family.
“I look forward to offering more classes to support to the community and any a parent looking for support on this critical topic," said Officer Albarran.
Carson City Juvenile Probation will offer another class this Thursday, March 16 at 6 p.m. This class will be offered in English. This class will be offered in both English and Spanish as a recurring class every month. Contact Juvenile Services to sign up at 775-887-2033 or at LSchreckengost@carson.org.
