Couple arrested for multiple drug possessions following Dayton traffic stop
On May 23, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Detectives from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation’s Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Dayton, Nevada.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 62 year old James Weslow. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as 59 year old Penny Bettencourt. James and Penny are residents of Silver Springs, Nevada. During the course of the traffic stop, a large amount of methamphetamine was discovered.
The discovery of methamphetamine during the traffic stop led Detectives to conduct a search warrant at James and Penny’s residence in Silver Springs.
During a search of the residence, a large amount of methamphetamine and other narcotics were located.
In total, Detectives seized 2.1 pounds of methamphetamine, 11 pounds of marijuana, 42 grams of cocaine, a numerous amount of drug paraphernalia and sales packaging material, and seven firearms.
James and Penny were arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail for numerous narcotics related charges to include High level trafficking of a schedule 1 controlled substance. James’ total bail is $229,895.00. Penny’s total bail is $17,280.
