Forest Service at Lake Tahoe to host information meetings on snowmobile use planning
The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will soon begin the planning process to designate National Forest System areas for snowmobile use in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
This process will update the current LTBMU Snowmobile Guide and take a comprehensive look at access, parking, and motorized and non-motorized winter recreation opportunities. The LTBMU will hold three informational open houses to provide the public and interested stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback.
For decades, the LTBMU has designated OSV use through a series of Forest Orders and the publication of the LTBMU’s Snowmobile Guide, which can be found here. Any proposed changes to current management would be considered under Travel Management Subpart C, which would analyze areas of the Lake Tahoe Basin for OSV use.
The South Shore open house will take place on March 29, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the Forest Supervisor’s Office, 35 College Drive in South Lake Tahoe. The Kings Beach open house will take place on April 5, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 North Lake Blvd. A third open house will be held in Sparks, Nevada, on April 19, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the Humboldt-Toiyabe Forest Supervisor’s Office, 1200 Franklin Way. There will be no formal presentation. Forest Service staff members will be available to provide background information and answer questions.
