Retired public works deputy director Curtis Horton to run for Carson City Supervisor Ward 3
Longtime Carson City resident Curtis Horton has announced his candidacy for Carson City Supervisor Ward 3.
Horton worked in the city’s public works department for more than 35 years, starting as a water crewman. He moved up through the ranks to the department’s Deputy Director before retiring in 2020.
“My experience working with important infrastructure and critical operations in the city has taught me the importance of maintaining our assets’” he said. “It’s imperative that we make smart decisions about maintenance. I have spent years working to keep our community safe and in the best shape possible. I am committed to continuing that effort as a city supervisor.”
Horton has received many accolades over the years. He has also been credited with helping build strong relationships within different city departments as well as outside agencies. “I have a strong work ethic and a take charge attitude and believe that has really benefitted me throughout my career.”
Horton has lived in Carson City since 1973. He and his wife raised a family here. “I enjoyed raising my family here. I want to keep it that way for other young families. I am committed to working with all of the city departments to keep our city safe, clean and inviting. Our outdoor recreational opportunities are an asset to our community. I am committed to enhancing and protecting our various recreational facilities including parks and open spaces.”
Horton and his wife Joy have three grown children. Their two sons followed Horton into public service. Both are members of the Carson City Fire Department; his daughter is a realtor. He and his wife Joy have five grandchildren and are also raising their grandniece. Horton enjoys spending time with his family, getting out on our area lakes, and exploring Nevada backroads.
Horton would replace Stan Jones, who was appointed two years ago and is not running for the position.
