Carson City arrest log: Deputies make domestic battery, drug and warrant arrests

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Thursday, 2:59 a.m. at the Denny’s in the 2200 block of North Carson Street on misdemeanor charges of minor consuming alcohol and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said. Bail: $979.

In other arrests: A 45-year-old Carson City mans was taken into custody Thursday, 12:13 a.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on misdemeanor warrants of domestic battery, issued March 21, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court and contempt of court, issued Jan. 30, 2012, also out of justice court. Bail: $4,686.

— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 10:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of Menlo Drive on a misdemeanor charge, violation of conditions of probation. According to the arrest report, officers were called to an apartment regarding a domestic dispute. The couple admitted to arguing but both said it was not physical. The man admitted to officers that he was drinking and on Alternative Sentencing, with conditions that he could not drink. He was arrested based on violation of the conditions. Bail; $3,000.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 8:35 p.m. in the 800 block of East Telegraph Street on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, an officer was flagged by the victim at North Roop and Musser streets. She told officers she had been battered by her boyfriend. She said the two had gotten into an argument, which turned physical when he grabbed her with both hands around the neck and pushed her against the wall. The victim also said the man bit her hand.

Officers spoke with the suspect who was uncooperative with officers. He told them his girlfriend was a bad person and would not give direct answers to deputies. In an interview with the victim’s mother, she said she witnessed the man put his hands around her daughter’s neck. He was arrested. Bail: $3,137.

— A 42-year-old Reno man was arrested Wednesday, 7:49 p.m. on misdemeanor disorderly conduct and obstructing charges after walking into Port of Subs on East William Street and asking customers if it was OK to rob them. He then walked out of the store. He was identified by witnesses. Officers approach the man who refused to follow orders, walking away, according to the arrest report. He was tackled and arrested. Be provided a BAC of .239. Bail: $654. Go here for the story filed Wednesday night.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday 4:16 p.m. on four misdemeanor charges including petit larceny, violation of a suspended sentence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. According to the arrest report, the man allegedly stole $30.13 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. He was detained by store security.

Officers found a black bag belonging to the man, that contained marijuana, baggies of marijuana and a scale. He was booked on the charges including a warrant, violation of a suspended sentence, issued Feb. 9, 2015 out of Carson Township Court. Bail: $3226.

— A 50-year-old Carson City man, Scott Michael Tyzbir, was arrested Wednesday, 5:35 p.m. on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor charges: non-functioning tail brake lights, failure to appear, pretrial supervision, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, the man was pulled over for the rear brake light not functioning and a cracked windshield. A check through dispatch advised he had a confirmed warrant issued Feb. 9, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. A K9 on scene made a positive alert of the vehicle, and a small plastic bag with meth was found as well as a makeshift meth pipe. Bail: $6,709.

Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.

Six local bowlers were inducted in the third class of the Carson Country Bowling Association Hall of Fame at their annual meeting on Saturday, April 27, at HomeGrown Bowl. Carson Country is the local association of the U.S. Bowling Congress.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will hold a "Sheep Talk" this Monday, April 29 from noon to 1 p.m. so residents can learn from Carson City staff about the popular fuel reduction program used annually with the use of "firefighting" sheep.
