Nevada’s Area Council of Boys Scouts of America honor adult leadership
Pinenut District of Nevada’s Area Council of Boys Scouts of America takes time out every February to recognize its adult leadership. This leadership puts in untold hours to volunteer and provide Scouting programs to all ages of youth.
Honored at the District’s February Roundtable were:
Charter Partner of the Year Award, Kiwanis of Douglas County. Kiwanis is the new sponsor for Troop 495 Rookie Cub Leader, Linda Forbes.
Leader Forbes is dedicated to the Cub Scout program, providing ideas and suggestions.
Rookie Cubmaster, Rachel Smith. Cubmaster Smith stepped forward as Cubmaster and with her enthusiasm, her Pack has grown under her leadership .
Cub Leader, Jennifer Bobo. Leader Bobo helps wherever there’s a need. She has served in many capacities from Cubs to Scouts.
Rookie Scout Leader, Ken Kruse. Leader Kruse is Scoutmaster of Troop 33, has been a District Executive and has lead Order of the Arrow.
Scout Leaders, Michelle Bowler and Pat Solberger. Bowler works behind the scenes in Troop 16, spearheads product sales, plans Courts of Honor and is the “go to” person for it all.
Solberger is dedicated to Troop 16 ensuring their activities, and goes the extra mile for Scouts to succeed
Rookie Commissioner, James Thorne. Commissioner Thorne has made a difference in the District, helped launch Crew 357 and held the District achieve Gold in commissioner service for Journey To Excellence.
Commissioner, Alan Newberry. Commissioner Newberry has served as a Roundtable Venturing/Varsity Commissioner and Unit Commissioner.
Distinguished Commissioner Award, Doug Ritchie. Distinguished Award winner Ritchie, Unit Commissioner for 3 years, has been tops in unit visits: he made 100 out of 641 visits.
Pinenut Spirit Awards:
Lindsay Christensen: Christensen launched the new STEM/NOVA program and its first-ever STEM/NOVA fair to benefit Scouts.
Susan Burns: Burns steps forward wherever needed including recruiting, Cub Scout events including Cub Day Camp.
Ben Kahue: Kahue provides a quality program for Pack 341. He has been in charge of the District Pinewood Derby.
Rich Whipple: Whipple has served as a Merit Badge Counselor, taught at the Merit Badge Fair.
Golden Pinenuts Awards:
Lisa van Wagonen: Van Wagonen has served as both Cub Roundtable and Roundtable Commissioner, has boosted attendance and has trained dozens of Cub leaders.
Barbara Ford: Ford has coordinated District and Council events at the Western Nevada College. She helped with popcorn sales and the raising of more than $113,000.
Tosha Thorne: Thorne provides leadership at Cub Day Camp, Roundtable and other District events as well as with Pack 45.
Heather Jackson: Jackson has served Cub Day Camp committee for 3 years and attendance has increased.
Wanda Beckman Pinenut Hall of Fame, Michael Henningsen: Henningsen has been a Cubmaster in Gardnerville with up to 150 Cub Scouts. He has served on the Committee, Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and is now Charter Representative. Troop 495 has had many Eagle Scouts under his leadership. Henningsen also has served as a Merit Badge Counselor.
