CARSON CITY — The Salvation Army is having a job fair on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and Angel Tree Christmas Toy distribution.

Remember the old days when school would get cancelled for weather aberrations like snow? Aww, the excitement of that early morning phone call and the joyfulness of being able to go back to sleep with the anticipation of a full day ahead of hanging out in pajamas and watching Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Camp Carson is a decades long summer tradition for school-aged children in the capital city. Every year children can be seen at Mills Park, the Carson City Community Center, the Carson City Aquatic Center, or around town attending various field trips, identifiable by their matching, brightly colored t-shirts.

Salvation Army regional headquarters has announced that Captains Mark and Leslie Cyr of The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County have been appointed to the Pueblo, Colo., Salvation Army.

The break in the stormy weather was a short one, with more precipitation later in the day Wednesday, forecasters say. Activities around Carson City on Dec. 4 include a "Red Kettle" job hiring event at the Carson City Salvation Army, a Fitness Lab grand opening on Minnesota Street, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, library activities, classes and more.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles — a holiday tradition that has served as a symbol of goodwill for more than 100 years — is in need of additional "Kettle Workers" at its locations throughout the Carson City region.

A community that shares is a community that cares. Capital City residents, known to go above and beyond in their generosity during the holiday season, are invited to participate in this Friday's 22nd annual Carson City Turkey Drop hosted by the Salvation Army, Max Casino and KKFT 99.1.

Settling into the week as we head into Tuesday, Nov. 5, activities around the capital city include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Salvation Army holiday job fair, plus a grant workshop through the Nevada Arts Council, an evening showing of the 1951 film "An American in Paris" hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club, pole fitness and swing dance lessons at Yaple's Ballroom and more.

The Salvation Army is holding school supply drives at approximately 3,000 locations across the country, including Saturday, August 3 at the Walmart store in Gardnerville.

Capital City Hoops, a local non-profit organization, is hosting the second annual Back-to-School Basketball Camp for kids ages 5-15. The event will be held August 5-8 at the MAC Facility at 1860 Russell Way in Carson City from 9 a.m. to noon.

Heading into Monday, July 8, 2019 we want to give a big shout out to all the local organizations and agencies that made this Fourth of July weekend around the Carson City region one to remember. For Monday we're looking at a number of events including a basketball camp at the MAC, a children's theater camp, a local talk with the Carson City Airport manager, art activities, line dancing and more.

Capital City Hoops, a local non-profit organization, is hosting the second annual Hoopaholics Basketball Camp for kids ages 5-15.

All boys and girls interested in basketball are encouraged to join the fun! Camp includes individual skill building, shooting competitions, team games, camp speakers, and camp prizes. A camp t-shirt is included with paid registration.

Carson City University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Carson City Parks and Recreation and Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch, is offering two weekly sessions at Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson City Road in Carson City, for youth who are not able to keep or raise a small farm animal to experience working with either rabbits or goats. Area 4-H leaders will bring their animals for attendees, 9 – 14 years of age, to work with in these hands on day camps.

CARSON CITY AND DOUGLAS COUNTIES- The Salvation Army is collecting Christmas Toys for disadvantaged children. As this year’s campaign finishes up the Army is running short on gifts for middle school and high school boys and girls.

The Salvation Army will host a job fair this Friday, Nov. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. at its Carson City offices located at 661 Colorado St.

There is still time to sign up for the 4-H 2017 Summer Youth Day Camp. A full week of educational field trips that begin at the Cooperative Extension office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Carson City Cooperative Extension is looking for youth interested in the the 4-H 2017 Summer Day Camp. The camp is a week of fun and educational activities designed around exploring Carson City and surrounding areas.

To help raise funds for the Salvation Army, two Carson City area Kiwanis groups are having a friendly Challenge.

The Kiwanis club of Carson City has been bell ringing for The Salvation Army at Smiths on Hwy 50 for many years and now the Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada have challenged them to a “ring off.”

Bell ringers are back for the Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle campaign with more than 30 locations throughout Carson City, Douglas County and surrounding communities.

The campaign goal for 2016 is $160,000, said Salvation Army Captain Mark Cyr. Bell ringers in 2015 raised $151,200.

The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County began its annual back pack and school supply distribution Tuesday with around half of what was collected last year, organizers say.

The Cooperative Extension and 4-H Office held its first ever Youth Summer Day Camp. Lindsay Chichester, Extension Educator says, “We have actively been working on creating awareness about 4-H and Extension, and what we can provide to both youth and adults in our community.

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.

Signups continue with registration ending Friday, July 28 for the Cooperative Extension 4-H Summer Youth Day Camp.
