One dead in crash Wednesday south of Gardnerville on Highway 395
A 69-year-old Reno man died in a crash that happened Wednesday afternoon south of Gardnerville on Highway 395, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Donald David Chisholm died after he was driving his 2009 Ford Fusion northbound on Highway 395 north of China Springs, over-corrected and crossed into the path of another vehicle. An adult female passenger in the vehicle with Chisholm sustained serious injuries, according to NHP, which responded to the crash at 4:21 p.m.
According to the preliminary accident report, the blue Ford Fusion went off the roadway to the right and Mr. Chisholm over corrected to the left. The over correction cause him to lose control of the vehicle and cross over the double yellow center lines into the path of a southbound 2003 black Ford Expedition.
The driver of the black Expedition was unable to avoid the Ford Fusion, striking the right side with the front of the black Expedition. Mr. Chisholm was flown via CareFlight to a Reno hospital where he died a short time later.
The female passenger was also flown via CareFlight to a Reno hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the black Expedition was transported to a Reno hospital via ambulance.
All three occupants from both cars were not wearing seatbelts. Impairment is unknown at this time. Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Garretson is investigating this crash.
